Digital Metal Launches Metal 3D Printer

Posted Date 09/25/17

Digital Metal, a unit of metal powder manufacturer Hoganas, has announced the launch of its DM P2500 – a metal 3D printer using binder jetting technology, which until now the company used to provide services to clients but is now putting the device in their hands.

Metal 3D printing is one of the fastest-growing segments of the industry thanks to its many potential applications in the production of complex component parts and other items, displacing traditional manufacturing from one of its oldest places of application.

The DM P2500 has a build area of 2500 x 2500 x 2500 mm and it can produce up to 50,000 parts in one print run. It does not use support structures and it can even 3D print moving parts within other structures in one single print.

Digital Metal says that the DM P2500’s binder jetting method enables the production of smaller and more intricate component parts than other metal 3D printing technology, which makes it equally suited for limited serial production and for making unique objects. A striking example of the capabilities of the DM P2500 is the dial for a line of Swiss Alps-inspired watches, produced by Montfort. Digital Metal says that only its binder jetting method could produce the rock-like structure of the dial that Montfort needed.
