GE to Develop Its Own 3D Printer

Posted Date 06/27/17

GE Additive is a new business unit in the big GE family – a unit in charge of building GE’s very own 3D printer, to be used for the creation of parts to be used in the construction of jet engine components and parts for single-aisle planes. The printer, set to be the largest laser-powered such machine in the world, according to a statement from GE Additive, will be able to print large items: large enough to fit within a cube with a side of 1 meter. It will use powdered metal as its printing material, which will make it applicable for more than just aircraft parts. According to the general manager of GE Additive, it will be also useful for carmakers, power utilities, and oil and gas producers and service providers. The printer should be ready to meet the public this November, at the Formnext Show in Germany.
