Robot Speeds Up 3D Printing

Posted Date 02/27/18

It was only a matter of time to combine robotics with 3D printing and that’s exactly what researchers from Cornell University have done. They have designed a robotic modeling assistant (RoMA) that utilizes augmented reality and combines it with robotic modeling to make it possible to 3D print simple designs almost as soon as they are created.Ths leads to a significant shortening of the 3D printing process and immediate feedback for the designer, one of the researchers, Huaishu Peng says. Also, it makes possible testing direct design and printing on n already existing object. For now, the technology only allows for the printing of most basic designs but it will most likely evolve to include more complex ones.
