Remanexpo@Paperworld 2015

Posted Date 02/03/15

The first day of Remanexpo@Paperworld 2015 saw a positive start to the event, with the day's seminars focusing on how remanufacturers should aim for value over price, while three raids by German Customs demonstrated that the OEMs are still keeping tabs on any infringing products.

The event, taking place in Hall 6.0 at Messe Frankfurt for the first time, saw exhibitors and visitors treated to discussions at the show floor's Seminar Theatre about the importance of value over price when it comes to remanufactured cartridges. The Recycler's David Connett and Lightwords' Peter Mathew discussed the industry over three talks covering the future of remanufacturing and its challenges, what those entering cartridge remanufacturing need to know, and what remanufacturers should do when it comes to pricing products. Additionally, Static Control's first "tech talk" presentation focused on the Lexmark C792 toner cartridge, with the company's Tom Claessens and James MacBeth giving an overview of the cartridge, its construction and then how to take it apart in preparation for remanufacturing it.

Sunday saw 3D printing confirmed as a new option for the aftermarket, as a talk from Static Control and Lexmark and HP representatives presented the common ground between OEMs and the aftermarket; while the winners of The Recycler Awards were announced.

With one seminar given on 3D printing technology by Print-Rite, and another machine present at the event from 3T Supplies, it seems that 3D printing technology has entered the cartridge aftermarket as an extra business for a number of companies. Seminars at today's show covered topics including the future of remanufacturing in Europe as well as the biggest threat facing the industry today. The day's programme concluded with a strongly-attended talk from Static Control that also saw presentations from both HP and Lexmark, with a strong message of OEM cooperation and aftermarket vigilance towards IP infringement the lessons to take from the discussions.

Day three of the event in Frankfurt saw the show's seminar programme tackle the issue of business inkjet, while exhibitors discussed their products and services, addressing the importance of quality to ensure the industry can better compete with the OEMs.

The third day of Remanexpo@Paperworld 2015 saw the most comprehensive seminar programme yet, with speakers discussing topics and issues as diverse as business inkjet, pricing, vertical markets and challenges facing the aftermarket, with Static Control's third 'tech talk' and a repeat of Static Control's seminar with representatives from HP and Lexmark.

Two of the seminars focused on business inkjet, with InfoTrends' Andrew Carroll discussing the statistics behind the emerging market alongside both mobile printing and vertical markets, noting that the analysts' survey of users of laser and inkjet printers found that users tend to be more negative about inkjet, and that business inkjet is "divisive", though predictions appear to suggest that the number of machines will only continue to grow - particularly those that offer faster print speeds.
