Australia Businesses Not Ready for GDPR

Posted Date 06/07/18

The week before GDPR came into effect on May 25 must have been hectic for many companies if not most as everyone rushed to ensure it is compliant with the regulation. In Australia, it seems a lot of businesses could not make it on time.

A report by CSO says most Australian companies were still figuring out the regulation and its implications for their business when it kicked in. Some had not yet trained their employees how to deal with requests for data under GDPR.

But according to some experts, GDPR has given companies the opportunity to improve their cybersecurity defenses to convince their customers they are serious about protecting sensitive data. In this sense, the timing of GDPR is perfect as cyberattacks and online scams continue to increase: last year, Australians lost more than A$340 million to online scammers.
