Hewlett Packard Plans $275-Mln Buy of Hardware Maker

Posted Date 08/16/16

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has agreed to purchase Silicon Graphics International Group for $275 million. The deal represents a price of $7.75 per share for the computer hardware maker, which is 30% above the target company’s recent stock price. According to HPE, the acquisition will add to its data analytics and computing business divisions and will boost its sales to government agencies.

SGI used to be a big player in computer hardware once upon a time but more or less slipped into obscurity in the late 1990s as new players took over the computer hardware field, offering more flexible and cheaper solutions.
