HP Launches Lower-Cost Full-Color 3D Printers

Posted Date 02/13/18

HP has announced the launch of two new 3D printer series that aim to make the technology more popular among businesses that can’t afford high-end machines, seeking to democratize prototyping without compromising quality.

The Jet Fusion 300 and 500 series print in full color and utilize a voxel-control system. Voxel control basically means applying the principles of inkjet printing to three dimensions, allowing each voxel to be a different color as per instructions coming from the computer.

The price starts at $50,000 and, according to the company, will target small and medium-sized businesses.

What’s more, HP is using what it calls open source materials, which means partnering with others to supply the future users of its new, more affordable series of printers with the variety of printing materials they could benefit from the most. According to Gartner, this could change the shape of the industry’s future, bringing local production for local consumption closer to reality.
